Hummingbird

Light. Fast. Free

Ideation

Hummingbird’s essence is incorporated by a sharp, beak-like front and sleek, speedtail-inspired rear reminiscent of its tail.

Selected designs are highlighted.

Mockup

With the general form established, I create quick mockup sketches to refine proportions, add surface details, and explore the overall volume balance.

Hand sketching allows for fast, intuitive exploration and helps capture the energy of the concept before moving into digital refinement.

Initial Render

After refining the base sketch, I imported it into Sketchbook to enhance surface detail, depth, and proportion accuracy. The final render was completed digitally by hand, incorporating Koenigsegg CC850 wheels for quick and realistic visualization.

Gemini Render

Once I had a clear visualization of Humminbird, I then uploaded the design and logo to Google Gemini to generate realistic renderings before moving into Blender or other 3D modeling software.

This stage also allowed me to experiment with AI tools and refine my prompt-modification skills.

Render Study: What worked and what didn’t

After comparing the Gemini render with the initial hand render, I would say Gemini achieved about 85% accuracy.

Green highlights indicate successful features, while red marks show areas that didn’t translate as intended.

Overall, the car retained most of the aerodynamic elements and ventilation details from the original render. However, there were minor inconsistencies I’d like to improve. I also learned that excessive prompting can confuse the AI and gradually shift it away from the reference image.

Key Insight

The initial prompt and reference file play a crucial role in providing clear, detailed input that leads to more accurate results.

Gemini proved to be a great tool for visualizing projects and fueling motivation to bring them to completion.

Next Step

Build a detailed 3D model of the Hummingbird and create more realistic scenarios that closely match the original design vision.
